PANEL 3 - The Ethics of Human Enhancement

Over the last few decades, technology has changed and transformed human lives more than ever before. Radical advances in genetics, neurosciences, and the convergence of nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology, and cognitive science with artificial intelligence and robotics are rapidly challenging our very understanding of what it means to be human. Reprogenetics and gene editing using the CRISPR-Cas9 technology opened the doors to the redesign of our genome and the possibility of permanently altering the evolutionary process. Step by step, our humanity is becoming a project of our own design.
These and related problems are now extensively covered by the enhancement ethics literature. The present panel aims at promoting the discussion of these problems. A non-exhaustive list of possible relevant topics to be addressed in the panel includes:
