Among the questions we would like to discuss are:
- How does the public interest differ from the individual interests?
- What is the relationship between justice and the public interest? Is the public interest a non-ideal conception of justice?
- Does the public interest require a conception of the common good?
- Is the public interest a “political, not metaphysical” concept?;
- Is the public interest exclusively a matter of policy (for instance, in the distribution and regulation of public goods); or shall we also consider rights and constitutional principles a matter of public interest?;
- What constitutes the ‘public’ in a public interest argument?;
- Does the public interest require democracy? Is the public interest essentially the interest of a democratic majority?
